Startup Stash platform help — one of the largest curated startup tool directories (10,000+ tools, 200+ categories, DR65). Helps with submitting a product listing, optimizing your listing for acceptance, understanding backlink value (nofollow), and advertising options. Use when your tool needs visibility in a high-authority directory (DR65), your Startup Stash listing isn't getting approved, or you're unsure if Startup Stash is worth it for SEO given nofollow links. Do NOT use for multi-directory launch strategy (use /sales-launch-directory). Do NOT use for Product Hunt launches (use /sales-producthunt).

| Attribute | Detail | |---|---| | URL | startupstash.com | | Type | Curated startup tool directory | | Founded by | Bram Kanstein (acquired by Israeli media company, Nov 2017) | | Scale | 10,000+ tools, 200+ categories | | Monthly traffic | ~10K visits | | Domain Rating | DR65 / Moz DA45 | | Backlink type | Nofollow | | Submission cost | Free | | Curation | Selective — not every submission is accepted | | Newsletter | "STASH!" weekly newsletter | | Product Hunt history | #1 most upvoted product of all time on Product Hunt | | Contact | [email protected] |
What works best for acceptance:
| Metric | Value | Verdict | |---|---|---| | Domain Rating | DR65 | Solid | | Backlink type | Nofollow | Limited direct SEO value | | Monthly traffic | ~10K | Modest referral traffic | | Category relevance | High (startup audience) | Good for brand visibility |
Bottom line: Startup Stash provides brand visibility and credibility (listed alongside well-known tools) but limited direct SEO benefit due to nofollow links. It's worth submitting (free, selective acceptance adds credibility) but don't prioritize it over dofollow directories like Fazier (DR81), Uneed (DR74), or SideProjectors (DR69).
Startup Stash offers advertising partnerships for brands that want more visibility. Details:

Deprioritize if:
In a multi-directory launch, Startup Stash fits in Phase 3 (free editorial queues) — submit on Day 1 alongside other free editorial submissions (CtrlAlt.cc, MicroLaunch, LaunchingNext, etc.). It will go live whenever the curation team approves it. Don't time-sensitive plans around it.
Best-effort from research — review these, especially items about plan-gated features and integration gotchas that may be outdated.
Nofollow backlinks only. Unlike many startup directories (Fazier, Uneed, SideProjectors), Startup Stash backlinks are nofollow. Good for brand visibility, not for direct SEO link juice.
Selective curation. Not every submission is accepted. Startup Stash works best for established tools with clear value propositions — experimental or very niche products may be rejected.
Payment surprise reported. Some users report being asked to fill out all product information and then receiving an email requesting payment. This is not mentioned upfront on the submission page — be aware before investing time in the listing.
No search function. Users have reported the platform lacks a search function, relying on category browsing only. This limits discoverability within the directory.
Outdated content and broken links. Some category pages contain outdated tools or broken links (e.g., "Best Zoom Alternatives" errors). The directory may not be actively maintained to the same standard as when it launched.
Manual management only. Listings can't be synced with other platforms. Changes must be made manually through the Startup Stash interface.
Removal unclear. There is no documented way to remove a business listing from the site once published.
Post-acquisition maintenance. Startup Stash was acquired in 2017. The level of active curation and maintenance may vary compared to founder-led directories.
Self-improving: If you discover something not covered here, append it to references/learnings.md with today's date.

Symptom: Filled out the submission form but no approval or rejection received Cause: Startup Stash uses selective curation with no guaranteed SLA. Post-acquisition maintenance may be inconsistent. Solution: Follow up at [email protected]. If no response after 2 weeks, deprioritize and focus on directories with faster turnaround (ProductBurst, SoloPush, JustGotFound — all instant).
Symptom: Received an email requesting payment after completing the free submission form Cause: Some users have reported this experience. It's unclear whether this is for a premium tier or a change in the submission model. Solution: Contact [email protected] to clarify what the payment covers. If you only want a free listing, ask whether that option still exists. Consider alternative free directories if the free tier is no longer available.
Symptom: Your product listing shows old screenshots, description, or pricing Cause: Listings must be updated manually and the platform doesn't have a self-service edit flow that's well-documented. Solution: Email [email protected] with the updated information and request changes. For faster listing management, prioritize directories with self-service dashboards (Product Hunt, Uneed, Fazier).

Waitlister platform help — pre-launch waitlist platform with hosted landing pages, points-based viral referrals, built-in email broadcasts, REST API, and five HMAC-signed webhook events. Use when choosing Free (100 subscribers) vs Launch $15/mo (unlimited subs, referrals + broadcasts) vs Growth $49/mo (API, webhooks, Klaviyo/Mailchimp/Kit sync, fraud detection unlock here) vs Business $129/mo, building a webhook handler that verifies X-Webhook-Signature, webhooks auto-disabled after 10 consecutive failures, API signups bypassing referral fraud detection because client_ip/fingerprint weren't forwarded, granting bonus points or pulling top referrers via the API for reward fulfillment, broadcast send caps forcing an ESP handoff, automating without Zapier (Waitlister has none — webhooks/API only), or comparing Waitlister vs LaunchList/KickoffLabs/GetWaitlist/Prefinery. Do NOT use for list-growth strategy (use /sales-audience-growth) or LaunchList help (use /sales-launchlist).

LaunchList platform help — viral pre-launch waitlist platform with one-time lifetime pricing, gamified referrals (queue jumping, leaderboard, position inflation), embed widget + custom form POST endpoint, new_user/email_verify webhooks, Zapier, and spam protection. Use when choosing Free (100 submissions) vs Launch $29 (500) vs Grow $79 one-time (10K — webhooks, Zapier, team unlock here), wiring waitlist signups into Mailchimp/Kit/HubSpot or a CRM because LaunchList has no email broadcast system, needing programmatic access when there is no public REST API yet (form POST + webhook workaround), building a webhook handler with referred_by referral attribution, blocking disposable-email or bot signups on a viral waitlist, a custom signup form not submitting or not tracking referrals, or comparing LaunchList vs KickoffLabs/Viral Loops/Prefinery/GetWaitlist on one-time vs subscription pricing. Do NOT use for list-growth strategy (use /sales-audience-growth) or KickoffLabs help (use /sales-kickofflabs).

UpViral platform help — viral referral marketing and list-building platform (by Emarky) for viral sweepstakes, giveaway/reward campaigns, pre-launch waiting lists, and milestone referrals, with REST API (`app.upviral.com/api/v1/`, form-encoded `uvapikey` + `uvmethod`), Callback-URL webhooks, IP-based fraud detection, and 30+ ESP/CRM integrations. Use when campaigns aren't tracking referral points, deciding between Starter $79/mo (10K leads, NO API) vs Business $119/mo (API + webhooks) vs Premium $319/mo, the API erroring because you're on Starter where API/webhooks are gated, building a pipeline with `add_contact`/`get_leads`/`get_leads_points`, interpreting same-IP suspicious-referral flags, or picking UpViral over Viral Loops/Vyper/Gleam. Do NOT use for newsletter audience growth (use /sales-audience-growth), KickoffLabs help (use /sales-kickofflabs), merge-tag referrals (use /sales-referralkit), SparkLoop recommendations (use /sales-sparkloop), or multi-level Level 1/2/3 tracking (use /sales-referralhero).

ReferralHero platform help — full-stack referral, affiliate, waitlist, contest, and NPS platform with REST API, webhooks, Zapier, native ESP connectors, multi-level referral tracking (Level 1/2/3), coupon groups, anti-fraud, and a 5,000 calls/hour limit. Use when referrals aren't tracking, deciding between Free (no API) vs PRO $199/mo (API + webhooks) vs PREMIUM $399/mo (ReCaptcha + SMS Verification), auth failing with `no_token` or `Bearer` vs `X-API-Key`, Level 2/3 counts off from calling `level_2_all_referrals` not `level_2_referrals`, bulk 429s from not chunking the 500-transaction `add_bulk_transactions` limit, coupon endpoints 404 without a coupon group, reward fulfillment (`promote` then `unlock_promoted_reward`) failing, or comparing to SparkLoop/ReferralKit/GrowSurf.
