AI Slop — Anti-patterns
Forbidden Patterns
These patterns signal "AI made this." Never use them in wireframes or implementations.
Visual
- Purple-blue gradients as primary color scheme
- Card nested inside card
- Identical 3-column card grid with icon + title + description
- Center-align everything
- Uniform border-radius on all elements (same radius everywhere)
- Decorative blobs, circles, or abstract shapes with no purpose
- Gray text on colored backgrounds
- Stock photo hero with overlay text
- Glassmorphism as default surface treatment
- Dark mode + neon accent as default aesthetic
Layout
- Hero section with large metric numbers and subtitle
- Symmetric layouts where every section mirrors the one above
- Identical spacing between all sections regardless of content relationship
- Dashboard grid where every card is the same size
- Stacked cards instead of intentional layout
Typography
- Using Inter, Roboto, or system font without deliberate reason
- Same font weight throughout (no hierarchy)
- Decorative fonts for body text
Motion
- Bounce/elastic easing on everything
- Elements flying in from all directions on page load
- Identical fade-in animation on every element
Copy
- "Built for X" / "Designed for Y" hero copy
- "Get Started" as the only CTA label
- Feature sections that repeat the same mood/tone statement
How to Apply
When generating UI:
- After creating a design, scan it against this list
- If any pattern matches, redesign that element with an intentional alternative
- "Would someone immediately say AI made this?" — if yes, it fails
The goal is not to avoid these patterns absolutely, but to use them only when there is a deliberate design reason, not as a default.
