Follow these steps:
1. Fix the starting point
Identify the starting point and the specific decision or constraint that could be altered.
2. Generate divergent directions
Produce 3–5 fundamentally different directions — genuinely divergent paths, not variations on a theme.
3. Make each branch concrete
Specify what would differ in practice and the unique trade-offs of each branch.
4. Map the divergence
Note where paths split and whether branches could later recombine.
