Marketplace liquidity is the measure of your ability to match buyers and sellers efficiently. It is the ultimate engagement loop: more supply creates more choice, which increases the likelihood of a transaction, which drives retention for both sides.
To manage a marketplace, you must move beyond high-level GMV and look at the "overlap" between what supply wants to sell and what demand wants to buy.
The Fill Rate is the primary output metric for marketplace health. It measures how many users who show clear intent actually successfully transact.
The Fill Rate is a lagging indicator. You need a leading "Market Health Metric" that predicts whether a transaction will happen.
Compare your Supply and Demand circles to find where liquidity is leaking:
Avoid the mistake of giving users too many filters that fragment your supply.
Instead of using a "DMV-style" centralized onboarding, use your highest-quality supply to onboard new supply.
