Transform the relationship with your inner critic from an abusive power dynamic into a source of self-understanding. The critical voice in your head—the one that repeats "you should work harder" or "you're going to fail"—claims to be necessary for your productivity, but it is actually a primary driver of emotional stagnation and inefficiency.
When you identify a repetitive, critical thought (e.g., "You’re going to look stupid in this presentation"), do not argue with it or obey it. Instead, run a 24-hour experiment with one of the following responses:
Acknowledge the fear beneath the criticism.
Break the emotional grip of the voice by changing its medium.
Neutralize the authority of the voice.
Shift from "How do I fix this?" to "How do I enjoy this?"
