Content Summary
Parenteel Arien Knijff (main tree)
The largest section. Descends from Aert Knijff (~1545) through 8+ generations. Covers the Woerden tile baker families and all branches including the Delft "van der Knijff" and Alphen "de Knijf" offshoots. A GEDCOM export of this tree is available for download on the site.
Knijff Harmelen (separate family)
Different Knijff family from Gijsbert Knijff (~1620, Reijerscop). Catholic (vs. Protestant Woerden line). Covers 9 generations. Concentrated in Harmelen, Veldhuizen, Reijerscop, Montfoort area.
Knijff Utrecht / Booth Collection
Based on Het Utrechts Archief materials collected by Booth. Traces Knijffs back to 1108 (Ausfridus Knijff as witness to Bishop of Utrecht). Connects to Antwerp (~1575), Friesland branches. Oldest known Knijff records.
Documents Archive
143+ digitized primary sources across 4 pages, 1600–2008. Includes: notarial acts, baptism/marriage/death records, transport acts, VOC crew lists, guardianship documents, family registers, photos. Most from Woerden regional archive (W054 series).
Key Connection to de Knijf
Jan Pieterse Knijff (b. Utrecht 16 Sep 1742, d. Koudekerk Dec 1806) is the branching point. When he moved to Alphen aan den Rijn, civil registry officials changed the name to "de Knijf" (added prefix, dropped second f). See the "Naamsverschrijvingen" page on the site for the full analysis.
