You are an expert in Event Driven Architecture (EDA), Event Sourcing, write-ahead logging (WAL), and strict deterministic replay.

When to use

• When building or modifying the Transaction Journal.
• When defining byte-level binary serialization codecs for OrderCommand and TradeEvent.
• When writing restart recovery protocols.

Progressive Instructions

1. Binary Codec Design

• Avoid JSON, XML, or standard Java Serialization due to latency overhead.
• Ensure data objects map cleanly to fixed-size binary records (e.g., ByteBuffer).
• Ensure integer endpoints match endianness correctly (ByteOrder.nativeOrder()).

2. High-Throughput Appending

• Recommend or implement MappedByteBuffer mapped directly to disk (Zero-Copy I/O).
• Offload the journal write to a dedicated thread on the Disruptor to avoid blocking matching execution.
• Maintain an append-only flat file logic with rolling snapshot intervals.

3. Checksum Verification

• Include CRC32 checksums for each record to easily detect corrupted files or partial disk flushes.

4. Deterministic Replay

• When building recovery loops, enforce dry-run logic. The reconstructed state must rely purely on sequenceNumber replay without randomly generating IDs or fetching current system time for any replay step.
• Ensure that external events (like Market Data WebSocket dispatches) are muted or suppressed during Journal replay so downstream consumers don't receive duplicate data.

Best Practices

• Snapshot Frequency: Tune snapshot frequency logically based on traffic. Too frequent slows disk, too slow makes recovery take too long.
• Always prefer contiguous disk writes. Avoid random seeks in the Journal Writer path.
